As I posted to the students, Haller will be unavailable after the events that happened in DC. This also goes for most everything else until he recovers. Please check with Charles for any questions.

I will also be unavailable for all of my regular duties for until further notice and will be in the Box for a few days. Please email me if you need anything.

For those who are X-Men this will be a repeat of information:

While in New York City on a field trip the students were attacked by creatures known as Slendermen (or Slenderman), who prey on the vulnerable and consume their fear.

The children were drawn in to the Slendermen's dimension but one of the students, Madelyne Pryor, was able to escape and alert X-Force, who rescued them and took care of the matter.

Some of you may think this an internet rumor or 'meme' but I can assure you it is no joke. Among the Slenderman's abilities is the power to make people think they don't exist, except for those who they are preying on.

There was some psychic feedback due to the disruption on the astral plane that was felt by some of the higher function telepaths, including Charles, Emma, Betsy, and myself. It was, unfortunately, not enough for us us to notice much more than a migraine, however.

Ms. Pryor was able to telepathically relay to us what had transpired and we believe her, as well as the students and X-Force, who were there in the Slenderman's dimension.

Charles, Haller and I will be on hand to provide proof of the Slenderman's existence by showing these memories and making others aware to overcome the Slenderman's influence. This is mandatory.

Anyone who heard from the students and did not believe their story will be absolved from blame due to the Slenderman's influence.

If there are any questions or concerns please let us know.

Amelia is now on Matt's care for the time being. Please direct all questions to her instead.

Thank you.

Earlier in the day while visiting Matt Murdock, Amanda Sefton caught him with a number of ecstasy tablets. After administering a drug test I discovered trace amounts in his system. He is back on drug tests for the indefinite future and is currently residing in the Medlab undergoing withdrawal. Professor Xavier and I have already spoken to him regarding his actions.

I would ask that you take sensitivity in the matter and refrain from telling rest of the student body for now unless necessary.

He is currently not seeing any visitors for either encouragement or admonishment and if anyone tries I will boot them out physically if I have to. Don't try. Don't ask. I will let you know. Just because this is a school with a medical facility in it doesn't mean you can do whatever the hell you want in the medlab. There are rules for a reason. We're not doing it because we're mean.

If you have questions stop by my office or call me on my cell phone.

Good Morning,

In an attempt for some nearly belated holiday spirit I'd like to ask for some volunteers to be elves for a Secret Santa gift exchange for the New Mutants.

I'd like to get them interacting on a more individual level. Some seem to be splintering off into groups by themselves and I'd like to give them a chance to potentially interact with someone they might not interact with. Since it's a secret santa it'd be natural for them to wonder who theirs is so it'd probably get them talking to one another.

Any takers to be elves to maintain the secrecy?

Ms. Sarah Vale will be helping me in the biology lab to clean up post-finals for the next couple of days and to scrub the soot off the skeleton's bones.

Please do not try to encourage the young ones, impressionable minds and all.:) Thanks.

In order to prevent any problematic side effects from Vanessa's healing spell, as Amanda mentioned in her previous entry, we would like to ask that the staff take the students and any other vulnerable people away from the mansion at least until later this afternoon.

I will give one of the staff members a call when it is safe to return.

Thank you for your cooperation and Happy Halloween.

As you may have well heard from others on the comms, a series of wildfires have broken out in British Columbia and Alberta. Red-X has been dispatched to help with evacuations. I will be accompanying Red-X to assist in their efforts. I have asked Amelia to take over my shifts in the medlab.

If the evacuations wind up taking longer than anticipated and begin to run into the school week I will leave a few assignments for students to do and will make proper arrangements for a substitute for my classes.

Any questions please let me know.

Well, Lorna's brilliant. I think that should be stated for the record. The Green Speed energy drink that the kids are so fond of? This latest batch has a bizarre organic compound in it that's definitely not on the label and near as I can tell the drink is the only link between all of us who have been affected. I've sent all the details to the lab at Muir to see of Hank and Moira can figure out how this stuff is working, but in the meantime, I've called the factory in Oregon and am going out there on the red-eye tonight.

Well, on the plus side, Ms. Kikuchi is doing better - her weight's up into a normal range and the withdrawal, despite what she might think, is largely past. Forge, I believe, is near to providing a control on her absorption power, which will help with her twitching. Basically, medically she's ready to get out of the medlab and, beyond that, I think it would be a good idea to get her out of here. There's a certain temptation available which needs to be removed, and getting her into classes ought to be a good distraction...

I know we'd talked about putting her in a private room for a while, but I'm not sure that's the best idea now. More peer experience will help a lot with her becoming part of the school and with her language acquisition. Opinions? We've got a couple open spaces in the girls' suites.

Re: Laurie

As you all know, Laurie's been understandably upset over her mother's illness. What you may not know is she's been blaming herself - ovarian cancer is frequently caused by an excess and/or imbalance in hormones, which she believes she is the source of. The thing is, I spoke with Laurie's mother and her doctors, and I'm convinced that Laurie is not at the root of her mother's cancer. Laurie's father, Zach Garrison, has a similar (but rather less stable) mutation, and none of Laurie's compunctions about over or mis-use.

Obviously, he also wasn't prone to sticking around so proper testing could be done, and while Moira and I have been working to find some alternative, we've mainly been hitting dead ends. All of which boils down to the fact that we need to find Zach, for Laurie's sake and her mother's.

Joy of joys

Well, we've got at least some basic info about our new charge after a night of testing. She's seemingly an electrokinetic, capable of both projection and, interestingly, absorption and storage. Yes, like a battery. Possibly it's even uncontrolled absorption, although it will take more extensive testing and practice to be sure.

The really fun bit, though, is that this little hellion's apparently been attempting to control her mutation through self medication. Scott, your shoes died as a result of what would probably be an overdose of sleeping pills in anyone else combined with alcohol, and her blood work came back showing remnants of some nastier stuff yet. It's hard to tell, though, since needing "fairly extensive help with her English" doesn't even cover it, near as I can tell. We'll have to do placement tests, but given her level of spoken English I suspect she's also functionally illiterate,

Amelia and I are going to be keeping her down here for at least a week, possibly longer to help with what I can only assume is going to be some nasty withdrawal and to do some more testing about her powers - if she's entirely lacking in control we may need to come up with a solution similar to Alex's power containment suit.

The only highlight I've got is that there's no real reason to keep her from having visitors, and getting her exposed to her new peers is the best way to help with the language problem right now, I think. Somebody want to make a post out where the kids can see it, inviting them to come meet their new classmate?

I'm done.

Charles, everyone, maybe I should apologize for the suddenness of this all, or at least for leaving David and the others to get the kids back on their own, but I'm not going to. It finally hit home this weekend just how unhappy I have been with my work at the school. I no longer enjoy teaching or treating patients who don't care or are down right ungrateful. As for the X-Men... risking my life for people who tend to be ungrateful at best... No, I don't think so.

A better opportunity was presented to me this weekend, and I'm taking it. Consider this my resignation from the school and the team, effective immediately. Charles, you can dock my last paycheck for lack of two week notice - I don't particularly care.

As we've discussed, Tommy's no longer in a condition to need or warrant his remaining down here in the medlab. We can manage his remaining physiotherapy just as well if he is rooming in the mansion proper and, with Maddie and Hank heading to off to distant shores, it would be very good to not have to worry for a while about the requirements of a live-in patient, even one who's not on the critical list anymore.

I've spoken with Tommy about it and he is by no means thrilled with the idea of living amongst us full time but is... willing. Particularly after the incident this afternoon when I took him out to see the proof of his mutation and we ran into a rather vile specimen of FoHumanity. Duncan Brooks, our good Police Chief Brooks' youngest son. Madelyn, from what little I could pick up from the boy's mind I fear your suspicions about the local police force may be spot on. At any rate, Duncan made it quite clear that if Tommy "dares" to leave the grounds again he will end up quite dead.

I know some of you have your reservations about housing him with the students, I have some of my own and certainly they are going to fuss (and more than), but it is abundantly clear that our guest is going to be around for a good while and he will be our student for a while as well, as he has no idea how to control his powers (and, incidentally, will, I think, do quite well with normal classwork as well). I still think that putting him, alone, into one of the 18+boy double suites is our best choice - we won't have to worry about any scuffles with a roommate and he'll be somewhat separated from the rest of the students without, I hope, this being seen as either a privilege or tacit approval of his bigotry as he will still be being housed in the dormitory rooms.

Update

Tommy's casts came off today without any problems. He still needs to gain some muscle tone before he'll reallly be ready to leave the medlab, but it's decision time people.
[identity profile] x-jeangrey.livejournal.com
As I said I would, I've spoken with Tommy about what he would like to do once he is mobile again, without, of course, promising him anything. He does recognize the danger his powers possess without proper training and... is not unwilling to remain and be trained esentially until we kick him out. Which, unsurprisingly, he doesn't seem to think will be that long from now.

I'm not sure how much of an impact this will have on our final decision, but esentially, he can not keep us from forcing him to leave, and he does not object to being allowed, or required, to remain.

Mr. Jones woke up this afternoon from his coma. He is awake and aware, but still in no shape to leave the medlab - in addition to the broken bones which have not finished knitting, he is weak from the month he spent immobile. However, the question of what we're going to do with him when he can leave just became much more pressing...
